Chemours Krytox PFPE Lubricants: GPL, 1000 and XHT High-Temperature Series Overview

1. Main Krytox Product Series

The Krytox GPL series is a general-purpose PFPE lubricant series, covering precision lubrication, valve sealing, O-rings, bearings, oxygen systems, semiconductor equipment and chemical equipment.

The Krytox 1000 series is mainly designed for high-temperature industrial grease applications, such as high-temperature bearings, conveying equipment, ovens, kiln-related equipment, glass production, metal processing and long-term high-temperature operation.

The Krytox XHT series is designed for higher-temperature and extreme high-temperature applications, especially where the GPL series or conventional high-temperature greases cannot provide sufficient performance in long-term high-temperature, low-speed heavy-load or extended maintenance-cycle conditions.

2. Krytox GPL 100–107 Lubricant Oil Overview

Krytox GPL 100–107 are PFPE perfluoropolyether fluorinated lubricant oils. The main differences among these grades are viscosity, oil film thickness, fluidity and application conditions. In general, a higher model number means higher viscosity, stronger oil film retention and lower fluidity.

Krytox GPL 100

Krytox GPL 100 is a low-viscosity grade in the GPL oil series. It is suitable for low-load, low-resistance, precision lubrication and fast-spreading applications. It is commonly used in precision bearings, small sliding components, valves, O-rings, seals, semiconductor equipment and low-load chemical equipment.

Typical features: low viscosity, good fluidity, low resistance, suitable for precision lubrication.
Typical applications: precision bearings, valves, seals, low-load sliding components, semiconductor equipment.
Selection advice: if stronger film retention is required, Krytox GPL 101 or GPL 102 may be considered.

Krytox GPL 101

Krytox GPL 101 is a low-viscosity PFPE lubricant oil suitable for low-load, low-temperature start-up, low-friction and precision lubrication applications. Compared with GPL 100, GPL 101 has slightly higher viscosity and better oil film retention.

Typical features: low viscosity, good low-temperature fluidity, precision lubrication, chemical inertness.
Typical applications: precision bearings, small motor bearings, valves, O-rings, low-load sliding components, oxygen systems, semiconductor equipment.
Selection advice: suitable for low-resistance and low-load applications; not recommended for heavy-load or thick-film applications.

Krytox GPL 102

Krytox GPL 102 is a low-to-medium viscosity PFPE lubricant oil. It provides better oil film retention than GPL 101 while still maintaining good fluidity.

Typical features: low-to-medium viscosity, more stable oil film, good low-temperature fluidity.
Typical applications: precision bearings, valves, seals, O-rings, low-load to medium-low-load sliding components, semiconductor equipment.
Selection advice: suitable for components requiring stronger film retention than GPL 101 while still needing good fluidity.

Krytox GPL 103

Krytox GPL 103 is a medium-viscosity PFPE fluorinated lubricant oil suitable for medium-load bearings, valves, seals and medium-speed sliding components. Compared with GPL 102, GPL 103 has higher viscosity and a thicker oil film. Compared with GPL 104 and GPL 105, it still maintains relatively good fluidity.

Typical features: medium viscosity, stable oil film, good fluidity, suitable for medium-load applications.
Typical applications: medium-load bearings, valves, seals, O-rings, chemical equipment, semiconductor equipment.
Selection advice: suitable for applications moving from low load to medium load.

Krytox GPL 104

Krytox GPL 104 is a medium-to-high viscosity PFPE lubricant oil suitable for medium-to-high load bearings, valves, seals, O-rings and precision machinery. Compared with GPL 103, GPL 104 has a thicker oil film and better lubrication retention.

Typical features: medium-to-high viscosity, thicker oil film, balanced fluidity and load capacity.
Typical applications: medium-to-high load bearings, chemical valves, gas valves, seals, O-rings, precision machinery.
Selection advice: suitable for applications requiring stronger film retention than GPL 103 but not excessive viscosity.

Krytox GPL 105

Krytox GPL 105 is a high-viscosity PFPE lubricant oil suitable for high-temperature bearings, valves, seals, O-rings, automotive components and long-lasting lubrication applications. Compared with GPL 104, GPL 105 provides better oil film retention. Compared with GPL 106 and GPL 107, it has relatively better fluidity.

Typical features: high viscosity, good oil film retention, low volatility, long-lasting lubrication.
Typical applications: high-temperature bearings, valve sealing, O-rings, automotive components, semiconductor equipment, chemical equipment.
Selection advice: suitable for applications requiring long service life while maintaining a certain degree of fluidity.

Krytox GPL 106

Krytox GPL 106 is a higher-viscosity PFPE lubricant oil suitable for higher load, higher temperature, sealing lubrication and longer maintenance cycles. Compared with GPL 105, GPL 106 provides a thicker oil film and is suitable for high-temperature bearings, valves, seals, O-rings and chemical equipment.

Typical features: high viscosity, thick oil film, temperature stability, suitable for high-temperature and high-load applications.
Typical applications: high-temperature bearings, heavy-load valves, seals, O-rings, oxygen systems, semiconductor equipment, chemical equipment.
Selection advice: suitable for applications that require stronger oil film, higher load capacity and longer maintenance cycles than GPL 105.

Krytox GPL 107

Krytox GPL 107 is one of the higher-viscosity grades in the GPL oil series. It is suitable for high-temperature, high-load, low-speed heavy-duty, sealing lubrication and long maintenance-cycle applications. Compared with GPL 106, GPL 107 provides a thicker oil film and is more suitable for extreme-load and low-speed heavy-duty conditions.

Typical features: high viscosity, thick oil film, long-lasting lubrication, suitable for high-load applications.
Typical applications: high-temperature heavy-load bearings, valves, seals, O-rings, low-speed sliding components, chemical equipment, aerospace equipment.
Selection advice: suitable for equipment requiring stronger film retention and low-speed heavy-load lubrication. It is not ideal for applications requiring very low resistance or fast flow.

3. Krytox GPL 100–107 Oil Selection Logic

Krytox GPL 100–102: low-viscosity grades, suitable for precision bearings, low-load sliding components, valves, O-rings, low-temperature start-up and low-resistance lubrication.

Krytox GPL 103–104: medium to medium-high viscosity grades, suitable for medium-load to medium-high-load bearings, valves, seals and precision mechanical parts.

Krytox GPL 105–107: high-viscosity grades, suitable for high-temperature bearings, sealing lubrication, long-lasting lubrication, high load, low-speed heavy-duty conditions and longer maintenance intervals.

Simple selection logic:

For low resistance, low viscosity and precision lubrication: consider GPL 100, GPL 101 or GPL 102.
For medium oil film, medium load and valve sealing lubrication: consider GPL 103 or GPL 104.
For high temperature, thick oil film and long-lasting lubrication: consider GPL 105, GPL 106 or GPL 107.

4. Krytox GPL 200 Series Grease Overview

Krytox GPL 200 series can generally be understood as white PFPE greases based on GPL 100-series base oils and PTFE thickener. Compared with oils, greases are more suitable for parts requiring stay-in-place lubrication, sealing performance and reduced oil loss.

Selection logic:

Choose GPL 100–107 if lubricant oil fluidity is required.
Choose GPL 201–207 if grease retention and sealing performance are required.
If GPL 105 oil is used but grease retention is required on seals or bearings, GPL 205 may be considered.
If GPL 106 oil is used but a grease form is needed, GPL 206 may be considered.
If GPL 107 oil is used but stronger stay-in-place performance is required, GPL 207 may be considered.

5. Krytox GPL 210 Series Extreme-Pressure Greases

Krytox GPL 210 series is designed with enhanced extreme-pressure performance based on PFPE grease technology. It is commonly used in applications with higher load, higher friction pressure, or where gears and bearings require stronger anti-wear protection.

The grade number generally corresponds to base oil viscosity. A higher number usually indicates higher base oil viscosity and stronger oil film retention.

Selection advice: for common valves, seals and O-ring lubrication, GPL 200 series is usually preferred. If the customer emphasizes high load, extreme pressure or anti-wear performance, GPL 210 series may be evaluated.

6. Krytox GPL 220 Series Anti-Corrosion Greases

Krytox GPL 220 series is a PFPE grease series designed for corrosion protection and rust prevention. It is suitable for humid, corrosive, steam, chemical or metal-protection environments.

Selection advice: if the main requirement is chemical resistance and long-lasting lubrication, GPL 200 series may be considered. If metal corrosion protection, rust prevention and humid-environment stability are also required, GPL 220 series may be considered.

7. Krytox 1000 Series High-Temperature Grease Overview

In addition to the GPL general-purpose series, the Krytox 1000 series is an important high-temperature lubricant line from Chemours Krytox. This series is mainly designed for high-temperature bearings, high-temperature chains, ovens, kilns, conveying systems, textile equipment, paper-making equipment, glass production, metal processing, plastic film production lines and other long-term high-temperature operating equipment.

Krytox 1000 series belongs to the PFPE perfluoropolyether high-performance grease system. It features non-flammability, chemical inertness, low volatility, temperature stability, long-lasting lubrication and good material compatibility. Compared with ordinary high-temperature greases, Krytox 1000 series is more suitable for high-temperature, oxidation, chemical media, low-volatility and extended maintenance-cycle conditions.

Krytox 1000

Krytox 1000 is the basic high-temperature grease grade in the 1000 series. It is suitable for high-temperature bearings, sliding parts, conveying systems, ovens and general high-temperature industrial equipment.

Typical applications: high-temperature bearings, ovens, conveying systems, chemical equipment, precision machinery, high-temperature sliding parts.
Selection advice: suitable for general high-temperature conditions. If the equipment temperature is higher, the load is heavier or the maintenance interval is longer, Krytox 1001, 1002 or XHT series may be evaluated.

Krytox 1001

Krytox 1001 is suitable for high-temperature bearings and medium-to-high load equipment. It can be used in ovens, textile equipment, paper-making equipment, conveyor chain systems, fan bearings and high-temperature production lines.

Typical applications: high-temperature bearings, textile stenters, paper machine bearings, conveying equipment, fan bearings, chemical equipment.
Selection advice: suitable for high-temperature continuous operation where reduced maintenance frequency is desired.

Krytox 1002

Krytox 1002 can be used in higher-temperature or higher-load lubrication applications. It is suitable for low-speed high-load bearings, high-temperature sliding parts, drying equipment, kiln-related equipment, metal processing and glass production equipment.

Typical applications: low-speed high-load bearings, high-temperature sliding parts, drying equipment, metal processing equipment, glass production lines, high-temperature chemical equipment.
Selection advice: suitable for high-temperature, high-load, low-speed and long maintenance-cycle conditions.

Krytox 1004

Krytox 1004 is a high-temperature and heavy-duty-oriented grease in the 1000 series. It is suitable for high-temperature, low-speed, heavy-load and long maintenance-cycle conditions, especially where ordinary high-temperature greases tend to volatilize or flow away.

Typical applications: high-temperature heavy-duty bearings, kiln equipment, glass production equipment, metal processing, aluminum processing, low-speed heavy-load sliding components.
Selection advice: suitable for more demanding high-temperature heavy-duty applications than 1001 or 1002.

Krytox 1006

Krytox 1006 is suitable for more demanding high-temperature, heavy-load and long-term operating environments. It can be used in low-speed heavy-duty bearings, high-temperature conveying equipment, industrial furnace-related components, metal heat treatment, glass and aluminum production lines.

Typical applications: industrial furnaces, heat treatment equipment, high-temperature heavy-duty bearings, glass production, metal processing, aluminum equipment, high-temperature chemical units.
Selection advice: suitable for high-temperature heavy-load, low-speed operation, difficult maintenance and long-life lubrication requirements.

Krytox 1007

Krytox 1007 is a higher-viscosity grade in the 1000 series with stronger oil film retention. It is suitable for low-speed, heavy-load, high-temperature and extended maintenance-cycle applications.

Typical applications: low-speed heavy-duty bearings, high-temperature kilns, metal processing equipment, glass industry, aluminum processing, high-temperature valves and sealing components.
Selection advice: suitable for applications requiring stronger oil film, longer re-greasing intervals and higher high-temperature stability.

Krytox 1008

Krytox 1008 can be evaluated as a higher-viscosity grade for higher-temperature conditions in the 1000 series. It is suitable for high-temperature, low-speed, heavy-load and long-lasting lubrication applications where ordinary grease service life is insufficient.

Typical applications: extreme high-temperature low-speed bearings, heavy-duty sliding parts, kiln equipment, glass production lines, metal heat treatment, aluminum processing equipment.
Selection advice: suitable for applications requiring high-temperature stability, grease retention and long maintenance cycles.

Note: For different Krytox 1000 series grades, the specific temperature range, base oil viscosity and consistency should be confirmed according to the original manufacturer’s TDS, SDS, COA and actual equipment testing. Direct substitution based only on model number is not recommended.

8. Krytox XHT Extreme High-Temperature Series Overview

Krytox XHT stands for Extreme High Temperature. It is the Krytox extreme high-temperature lubricant series. The XHT series is designed for higher-temperature applications where conventional GPL series or 1000 series products may not be sufficient. Typical applications include ovens, kilns, textile stenters, glass and aluminum production lines, high-temperature fans, paper-making equipment, welding equipment, metal processing, aerospace and high-temperature chemical equipment.

Krytox XHT series features non-flammability, chemical inertness, low volatility, high-temperature stability and long-lasting lubrication. Compared with ordinary greases, the XHT series is more suitable for long-term high temperature, low-speed heavy load, and environments where conventional greases tend to volatilize, flow away or carbonize.

Krytox XHT-AC

Krytox XHT-AC is a common high-temperature PFPE grease grade. It is mainly used in high-temperature equipment. It provides low volatility, anti-wear protection, rust prevention and chemical inertness, and can be used in high-temperature bearings, conveying systems, ovens, textile equipment, paper-making equipment, fans and valves.

Typical applications: high-temperature bearings, ovens, conveyor chain systems, paper machine bearings, textile stenters, fan bearings, valve lubrication.

Krytox XHT-ACX

Krytox XHT-ACX is similar to XHT-AC but is more suitable for high-temperature equipment requiring a thicker oil film, lower volatility and longer service life. It can be evaluated for high-temperature, low-speed, medium-to-high load bearings or longer maintenance-cycle applications.

Typical applications: high-temperature fans, conveying systems, glass and aluminum production equipment, textile equipment, welding equipment, high-temperature valves.

Krytox XHT-BD

Krytox XHT-BD series is used in higher-temperature applications, especially where conventional thickener systems cannot meet the requirements. This series is suitable for low-speed bearings, bearing housings, high-temperature sliding components and extreme high-temperature conditions.

Typical applications: low-speed high-temperature bearings, kiln equipment, metal processing, high-temperature bearing housings, baking lines, glass and aluminum production lines.

Krytox XHT-BDX

Krytox XHT-BDX is a common higher-performance grade in the XHT-BD series. It is suitable for higher-temperature, low-speed, heavy-load and long maintenance-cycle applications. It can be evaluated when ordinary high-temperature greases tend to melt, run out, volatilize or carbonize.

Typical applications: extreme high-temperature low-speed bearings, high-temperature kilns, metal processing equipment, glass industry, aluminum processing, heavy-duty bearing housings.

Krytox XHT-BDZ

Krytox XHT-BDZ is a high-temperature grease grade in the XHT-BD series, suitable for extreme high-temperature, low-speed applications and conditions requiring strong grease stability. Actual selection should consider temperature, speed, load, metal material, re-greasing interval and equipment structure.

Krytox XHT-S / XHT-SX

Krytox XHT-S and XHT-SX are special high-temperature products in the XHT series. They can be used for high-temperature sliding, low-speed components and special industrial equipment. Specific suitability should be confirmed based on original manufacturer data, equipment conditions and customer testing.

9. How to Choose Between GPL, 1000 and XHT Series

If the customer’s operating temperature, load and maintenance interval are within the general high-performance lubrication range, the Krytox GPL series can be considered first.

If high-temperature industrial grease is required, the Krytox 1000 series can be evaluated.

If the application involves higher long-term temperatures, or if the GPL or 1000 series does not provide sufficient service life, the Krytox XHT high-temperature series can be evaluated.

Simple selection logic:

Precision low-load applications: GPL 100, GPL 101, GPL 102.
Medium-load bearings and valves: GPL 103, GPL 104.
High-temperature, high-load and long-life applications: GPL 105, GPL 106, GPL 107.
Grease retention required: GPL 205, GPL 206, GPL 207.
